A day after HBO Max Spain chief José María Caro was revealed to have exited, the executive has re-emerged at Secuoya Studios.
Caro has taken on the role of Chief Content Officer at the Zorro studio. He will lead the creative development of new projects, define editorial vision of productions and oversee the sales plan and international market penetration strategy. Last month, Secuoya Studios CEO Brendan Fitzgerald exited.
Secuoya said the move signals a “new phase of growth and international expansion” while “further strengthening the independent studio model.”
“Secuoya Studios has extraordinary talent, vision, and potential to continue growing in the global market,” said Caro, adding that he is “very excited to be part of that journey.”
Raúl Berdonés, Executive Chairman, added: “José María Caro brings together an exceptional combination of creative vision, international experience, and deep expertise in content development and production. His arrival reinforces Secuoya Studios’ commitment to a strong and distinctive strategy, consolidating our position as a studio focused on creating meaningful stories with a unique identity and the ability to connect with global audiences.”
The news has emerged just a day after it was revealed that Caro was exiting HBO owner Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) after a decade.
Caro “mutually agreed to part ways” with HBO Max, WBD said, with his team now reporting into Deniz Sasmaz Oflaz in her new role as HBO Max’s VP, Local Originals for Spain, Italy and Turkey, in the interim.
Caro had joined Warners in April 2024, and took on his previous post in January 2025 after Alberto Carullo, then VP of Productions for Italy and Iberia at what was then Max, left WBD to join Mediaset.
